SubjectLinux File Access
ContentNote that all of these methods are useful as a way to copy and view files on the network shares but should not be relied upon for long running processes. Long running processes should always use local storage as this is most reliable, where this is not possible they need a dedicated store. DFSThe "DFS tree" is a curated list of shares that includes your Windows/Linux home and group shares, it may not include more secure storage or Research File System shares. SSHFSYou will need your SSH setup to be done as documented in the SSH Page. mkdir -fp ~/remote/oxphy; sshfs clifford-smith@winssh1.physics.ox.ac.uk:/ ./remote/oxphy The `
mkdir` part is only needed on first run, however there's no issue with it being typed twice.SMB - Internal onlyYou need the name of the server to connect to from heading (1), in this example I use the smb front end to the central Linux file server, cplxsmb. To mount DFS from the command line, on GNOME Shell based distributions, run: gio mount smb://physics.ox.ac.uk/dfs/ You can replace physics.ox.ac.uk/dfs with the name of a specific share if you know it, this is usually more reliable and will give you access to places the DFS doesn't know about.
