Welcome to the Home Page for the Physics Department Microsoft Windows 11 systems.

Desktop Windows 10 Support Ends October 2025, you will need to have moved to Windows 11 by this time to maintain network connectivity.

Use of these systems is covered by the Physics Department Computing Policy and strategy is set by the Computing Committee.

The group provides support for MS Windows desktops and laptops. The group run automated procedures to check windows systems on the main network are up-to-date with security patches and anti-virus software.

Windows 11 behaviour is currently as we wish but as Microsoft are actively updating Windows 11 adding features and changing some of its behaviour. We are continuously working on improvements, if you find something is not working the way you would like please let us know by emailing itsupport@physics.ox.ac.uk.

Supported systems

These are the minimum system requirements for installing Windows 11 on a PC. If your device does not meet these requirements, you may not be able to install Windows 11 on your device and will have to purchase a new PC which is compatible with Windows 11 as well as complying with University and Departmental policy's. If you are unsure whether your PC meets these requirements, you can check by emailing itsupport@physics.ox.ac.uk please include the system name, were possible manufacture and model. Below is the minimum device requirement, but we would for example recommend a 500G drive.

  • 64-bit processor AMD Processors and Intel processors 8th Generation or later
  • 1Ghz clock speed
  • 16GB of RAM
  • 250GB drive
